I am Jo Rice in Ohio and took Sharon's class on Studio Journals this summer when I was too busy to really do the homework. the class was helpful though and it awoke me to the desire for me to make daily writings, drawings, etc. This was most important to me although I didn't do all the assignments. Thanks for starting this group.

Hello yall, I'm Alexia from Mississippi. I am learning to CQ aas well as tatting. Right now i'm working on my first "real" cq square.

Sharon B, I've admired your website and your work for a long time, and it made me want to try cq, and more elaborate embroidery stitches than just the few outline stitches I've always done. Thanks for getting this community going and your informative website.

I have to say that I've been somwhat intimidated to get started on cq, what with all the gorgeous examples i've seen, but I got to thinking that hey, every one started out now knowing how to cq and probably made big mistakes so I'm jumping in with both feet.

Now this may not be the spot to ask this question but i'm not sure how to word it for a search of the forum: When planning out a square or heart r whatever, is it better to put on trims and appliques first or do the embroidery first? I did appliques first onlt to realize later how badly they'd be getting manhandled by me as I did my embroideries... yet I seem to recall reading a couple of tutorials that had the trims and appliques first. So does it matter, or should each element be trated differently, putting things on in a predefined order?

Anyway, pleased to meet yall!

I've been lurking on this site since it came live, and I figure it's time to join in the fun.

I live in SW Ohio (just outside Cincinnati), and I'm a professional geek. Despite that (or perhaps because of it), I'm still getting used to navigating around social networking sites. I've got a blog dedicated to my needlework interests at Singing Wren's Nest. Now I need to get into the habit of updating it regularly.

I've been doing some form of needlework for as long as I can remember. My mom taught me counted cross stitch, some basic embroidery stitches, and quilting when I was in elementary school (or possibly earlier). I picked up crochet in high school while I was laid up with a broken collarbone. I've been teaching myself other techniques as they catch my interest. So far I've picked up crazy quilting, tatting (needle and shuttle), knitting, and a little bit of work with dying and felting.

Huh, no preview button? This is definately going to take some getting used to...

Hi, I am EvaP in Malmö, Sweden. I started with cross stitch as a young girl and I have continued embroider and still do. Now I dont do so much cross stitch anymore, other kind of embroidery has got my attention. :-) I like free embroidery much. And old Swedish linnen embroidery, it looks a little like redwork but you have all colours in it and use mostely steam stitch and satin stitch to fill. The bag I embroider is a god example. Look at my blog and you will now what I mean.

Like to sew and embroider - crazy patchwork, crazy quilt, embroidery, silk ribbon embroidery, Fabric ATC and Fabric PC. From time to time I also do some cross stitch and blackwork.

Hi
I'm Joan from Perth Western Australia and I've just joined 'stitchin fingers' it looks like a good place to be.
I can't remember a time when I wasn't 'making' something. Sewing, Knitting, Patchwork, Quilting you name it, but I guess my lasting passion is Cross Stitch, I just keep coming back to it. I do have a sideline at the moment I'm creating a Dollhouse which is very exciting. Cheers Joan

This is the West Country Buddha just checking in to say hi, before dashing off to paint yellow fabric. Has anyone else noticed how you've never got quite the right colour paint, or thread, or bead etc for the job? How come I spend so much but always need to spend more?!

Hi! I originally joined to answer a question about tatting I received on my google alerts! LOL! I'm so glad I did because I do love other needlearts besides tatting although that is my first love. I'm so impressed by all the talented needleworkers here and was pleasantly surprised to see that I also already had a few friends! Thank you for all your inspiring photos!

Hi,

I'm Dakotah...alias MichelleMermaid. I live in Kansas and am new to these sites. I am so glad to have found StitchinFingers. I know I will learn a lot here. I've already seen so many gorgeous creations from the talented artists who gather here.

I've posted a few pictures of my stitching on my page, so feel free to look. I often think my embroidery is really sub-par, then I go back to it after a while and think "Wow! Did I do that?" haha...I guess it's true we're our own worst critics.

Still, I have a lot to learn and I love the creative freedom crazy quilting and embroidering gives me. Just this week I've discovered this site and others where stitchers gather. I found Stitchin Fingers on Marie Alton's blogspot. I was really clueless that these sites existed, even though I'm on the computer quite often.

By trade I am a journalist and my boyfriend and I own and operate an online newspaper. It's a fun project and we are happily watching it grow.

I have four cats to care for and a decent sized garden...picking lots of okra these days! I work full-time and am able to embroider or read during downtimes, which is great. I love reading and am making my way through Ulysses by James Joyce for the first time. Lately I've started a series of tea towels embroidered with wildflowers I copied out of a coloring book. These tea towels are slated as Christmas presents, along with some of the totes I'm putting together.

I am interested in learning more stitches, specifically I'm going to try cast on stitches and the French knot roses...so gorgeous! I just joined the Tuesday stitch group. I also find the trading post card groups fascinating and see I just missed the latest one...urgh. Hopefully there will be another!

I've been embroidering since I was 8. I've been hand sewing since I was 4. I discovered crazy quilting about 8 years ago and have picked it up now and again.

Good threads are hard to find here, so I've mostly worked with DMC cotton floss and some rayon. Now I have the pearl #5, I think it's called and I use that a lot. My favorite threads are anything variegated!!! Just got in an order of new silk ribbon, but haven't used any yet...all I had before was in pastel. And, I'm waiting on a big order of silk thread, ribbon tape, lace, lace dye, hand-dyed ribbons and other trims to arrive! Can't wait! Also, a good friend who owns a small quilt shop gave me a great deal on some Czech glass buttons. They are absolutely gorgeous and I've already added some to my tote bag in progress...see photos if interested. So, I'm beginning to put together a stash of materials.

Really enjoying meeting you all and soaking up ideas and inspiration!
