Hi all I thought I would start this group and see if people were interested in joining. If you are here leave a message to introduce your self. Tell us what your fiber interests are too
I will also test the image function and leave some eye candy
Hi Sharon, I'm Annette and I live in the NE corner of England, in Co Durham otherwise known as the Land of the Prince Bishops. I was taught the basics of almost any stitch related craft you can think of by my grandmother then stopped altogether until my sons went off to university. I joined, half way through the year, an embroidery class and having completed the two year course in 9 months was pushed out into the world to do City & Guilds. I've started Part 2 twice!! both courses floundered after the first year due to funding and the colleges dropped the courses. I'm sure this has happened to lots of us.
I missed the challenge and did an on-line machine embroidery course with Maggie Grey, recognise quite a number of names from the same course. Joined lots of groups doing fibre textiles and finally found Stitchinfingers and am loving every minute of it - it keeps me out of mischief.
Besides the TIF, TAST, 100 stitches challenges I'm doing the Contemporary Quilt (Quilters Guild) 2008 Journal Page challenge. I need a challenge otherwise I 'potter' but I also need 'potter-time'.
Really looking forward to getting to know some of you better.
Hi! I am from New Orleans, LA, USA. I am a dyer and have worked with Shibori for about 20 years. Now expanding into all sorts of fiber fun including felting and free embroidery on the machine. I like doing fabric collage and developing images by using all sorts of fabric methods including photo transfer. It was wonderful to find this many fabric fanatics in one place.
Hello, everybody! I'm Rachel (AKA Rayela Art) and came on board because several textile people I admire are here. I have been working with ethnic crafts for about twenty years, but now specialize in textiles from around the world. I also sew and quilt, although haven't had much time to do it in the last few months as I've tried to grow my online businesses. But, my fingers are crying to get back into it again! I have so many ideas, not enough time.
I started a blog, Fiber Focus (http://fiberfocus.blogspot.com/) a couple of months ago and am pleased with how it is shaping up. I am always looking for guest artists, so if you like to write and would like to be a contributor, please contact me. I've seen wonderful work on here and will enjoy making new connections here.
Sharon, your work is absolutely beautiful! Thanks for starting this group!
I joined the internet recently and was lucky enough to follow a link to this group. Sounds like fun, and there is so much information being swapped between members.
I started sewing, making rag dolls and dolls clothes sometime early on using a treadle sewing machine which is now in my hallway, and I watched as Mum made clothes for herself and all of us kids.
I made rag dolls, soft toys and Christmas decorations for sale, then a friend wanted to start a patchwork class. I agreed to go along to make up the numbers, and make some cushions for Christmas presents. By lesson three I was hooked!
The next term, the friend left town and left me teaching her next class.
I haven’t stopped making quilts since, traditional style but origianl designs, but also still make the odd doll, some bears, lots of Christmas decorations, and I am skirting around the edges of scrapbooking, working out ways of using fabric amongst the paper.
I will be away for a couple of weeks, but look forward to taking part when I get back.
Judy B
Welcome Judy. Like you I have an old treadle sewing machine sat in my hall. I hope you find this site helpful. I am still finding my way around.

Hey, Y'all, I live in Cary, North Carolina which is just outside Raleigh. We've been here for almost 3 years after 9 years outside the states. I'm working on Phase VIII, Queen of Flowers right now, or, at least it is on the frame. It is very tedious. I like goldwork, but fuzzy effect is boring.. I'm also working on 2 smocked outfits for my grands and an icon. Plus, getting excited about a class in Maine in September.
And, I'm still trying to figure out how all the features on this website work. Plus, I'm trying to learn to use CorelDraw because I can't draw a thing and I can use that for designing.
My name is Sue. I truely love fiber crafts. I love stitching on fabric and trying out different techniques. I also like making lace(fiber, also). I like putting everything together. Instead of creating wall hangings and pictures over the years I've been putting the designs on clothing , any thing you can wear or carry. More people can see it and it is being used. A few years ago I tried a little dye painting, but never really had space to use away from children. So for now I'll still have to buy my colors. I always have several projects in the works. As of today I have these projects almost completed: x-stitch tooth fairy pillow, hawaiian applique pillow, tatted paisley motif, tatted pair of sandals, and x-stitched pillow. I've also completed a few stitchery projects also,a blackwork sampler, and a hardanger sampler that I changed. I may start with a chart but I have trouble completing it with changing something to make it unique.
I am very happy to join you and I recognize some names.
I am virginie, french needlework addict. I love every form of needlework, but days have only 24h and I have to make choices. After a long period of counted stitch, I discovered, thanks to a class in Lesage school (french famous embroiderer for Haute-couture) "La broderie de Lunéville" which we can translate approximatively in beading tambour embroidery. I took classes druing all this year with an other teacher and I can't stop loving this technique.
I enjoy too goldwork, stumpwork, crazy quilt (I took sharon class which made me discover CQ), counted thread, hardanger, surface embroidery.
I plan to learn Hedebo, Limerick lace, carrickmacross lace, Reticello, crewel embroidery.....
I am a huge reader, particulary embroidery 's book of course.
Oh, I forget to say that I live in Paris area and happily married to an italian boy, mother of Benjamin (17) and Mélisande (12) and I am now a nurse since 3 years after 15 year of journalism in politics.
Sorry it took too long, but I am an incorrigible chatter in french, in english and... italian
Hello everyone! My name is Michele and I live just north of Charlotte, NC. I am taking one of Sharon's online courses (Studio Journal) and found this site that way. I was first a cross stitcher and then a quilter. That has now progressed into a love of all kinds of fiber art. I am a SAHM of a 3 1/2 yr old little girl, so my studio time is limited. I'm excited to share with so many like minds in one place.
