I have seen many beautiful projects which use tatting for embellishments. I have used crocheted edgings for seams here and there, but I have seen many tatted pieces which allow the background fabrics to show through. Does anyone have a good resource to recommend for a newcomer to tatting? I think I'd like to give it a try.

GeorgiaSeitz.com is a wonderful site with lots of information. She has online classes for beginners to advanced. She also has archived material from past classes. There is a msn group that has tutorials on needle tatting. You-tube has some tatting videos. Hope this helps. There a a lot of people out there that are willing to help.

This site, and especially the demos, were very helpful for me when I learned it some years ago.

Thanks for the resources folks! Lots of information to ponder, especially on the GeorgiaSeitz.com site. I found the old DMC Tatting Book in the antique patterns archives and it has very good diagrams, instructions and explanations. Looks complicated, but I'm sure it's not so when you get going and learn about it. Tatting sure produces lovely results very different from crochet.

Hi Melinda, another source for new tatters is a group right here on ning called eTatters. I'm a member there under the same user ID if you want to stop and say hi.
You can ask any question and you will get answers from other tatters. There is also a post for new tatters of a list of resources for learning online. I joined stitching fingers just to answer your question lol! I'm glad I did because I love other needlearts besides tatting. I came across your question from my google alerts for "tatting". Tho' tatting is my first love when it comes to needlework; I love other arts, too. Good luck and let me know if I can answer any questions!

I am so glad you joined! You had me laughing to read that you did just to answer my post! This is such a wonderful place. I stopped over briefly at the eTatters area and will be back when I have MUCH more time to visit more thoroughly. Everything a girl needs to learn about tatting in one great place! Thanks so very much.

There is another great gal here on this forum (and etatters as well) named Melissa (That's the user ID she uses, too). She is also a great tatter and has some video tutes on her blog and at eTatters. I have a blog also (link available on my page here) with links to other sites for learning and more advanced techniques. Feel free to browse there, too, if you would like.
