This is the question ... What do you do to relax after a hard days work ? I have been asked this question not too long ago. Must say, my reply was met with total dissaproval. Can you guess why ? Well, I create more.... this is the free time, the best time to come up with brand new gown design. What about you ?

Make a quilt. Or at least work on one!

I usually do cross-stitch in front of the TV until my eyes get too tired. I'm a software engineer and sometimes after looking at the screen all day, my eyes rebel in the evening.

Read or do some type of creative endeavor - work in my studio journal, work on a fiber project etc.

Let's see. To relax, I pick up the book I've started, I work in the sudoku books I have, or I take my sewing projects to the bedroom, turn on the radio, and see what I can create. I have several crazy quilt projects I'm working on, and a Turning 20 quilt that I will be doing at a quilting retreat that I have to embroidry some blocks for, and I am working on making another hussif. Lots of things going on.

Knit, embroider, cross stitch, make quilts(new found joy), needlepoint, basically anything creative, or read.

I don't have hard days of work any more! Since I turned 50, I've only worked part time, and my working hours have got less and less (my choice) to give me more time to do what I want to do, even though I'm not getting paid for it. So how do I fill my days? Coffee and walks with friends on nice days, and once the house work is done at home, I'll surf the Internet, stitch whatever project appeals to me at that moment, read, work on a Sudoku puzzle (hi Joann!), or just spread my stash all over the floor and dream about what to do next!

Since I retired it seems that my "work" is all creative. So I agree, the free time is the best time to think about the next project or design. I also like to read and have several magazines and books stacked up next to my comfy chair. Like some of the others (Hi, Gina & Joann) I do Sudoku a lot. Almost an addiction!

It depends on how you define relax, VBG. I never do, except to sleep. My mind doesn't know how to stop, I'm afraid. I have 2 speeds, full speed and sleep. Often when I sleep I dream about projects. I define computer time as working, since I'm often researching for a commission or adding to my knowledge of my current work in some way. I tried to do crosswords years ago, but got too frustrated at never finishing them at one sitting. I often watch TV while I work, it's not often I sit and watch without some hand stitched project. I WISH I could just turn off, but having 4 kids in 7 years, looking after them and the home and working part time meant if you stopped you just caved in to exhaustion so I learnt to keep going. Now I CAN'T stop, except to sleep, and then I have trouble waking up again. Friends suggest yoga, or exercise to get some healthy relaxation. I'm a sceptic there, what do others think?
Hooroo,
Christine.

Full speed ahead and asleep........yes, this is who I am. However, being almost 64 yrs old, seems a tad of wisdom has ensued. I am a musician, so worship music on the piano/organ is a beginning...doing the embellishment on a new purse, watching an old movie usually from the 40's, and gazing at my 2 retired greyhounds snooze at my feet.....extremely relaxing. Listening to the sounds of nature right before dawn.....and a 2 mile walk every morning with the toddler-dogs gives my heart fullness.

My favorite thing to do is sew. I just go in my sewing room and don't come out. Dreaming Quilts : ) Carmen

The opposite of anything creative. Anything that I can emphatically start and finish. Go for a run. Wash the car. File the mail. This quiets the voices in my head for a while so that I can recharge my batteries.
