Hello Everybody
I am having great trouble accessing various pages and photos; the access is very slow or non existent and therefore I often have to give up perusing the site; does anyone have the same problem? we have removed all the saved photographs from the computer hard drive and saved them on a separate hard drive to hopefully help the situation.I realize that it is a very busy and full site, and I am trying to acces it at the same time as the other 887 members plus many more. Help please!

Hello Ruth
Thanks for your reply - we have a fast broadband connection, 4 megabytes; I have temporarily reduced the security so that I can access it now as it was hopeless but must return it to the previous setting shortly. I just wonder if so many are attempting to acces the site, it may be overloaded. Thanks Sheila

Shelia if you are on broadband you should be able to access the site no problems - I have no worries and I have had no complaints behind the scenes.

Hello Sharon
Thanks for your reply; we are on broadband and have removed all our photos and also de-fragmented the computer, we sometimes reduce security settings temporarily; either I can get through immediately or have a long wait. I wonder if at the time of day that I am accessing the site, many other members are doing the same, we sometimes have trouble with one other site which has a high percentage of photos. Will keep trying! Regards Sheila

Hello Paula
Thanks for your reply; we have a fast broadband connection, 4megabytes and I am not likely to be surfing at 5am! so in order to get somewhere this morning, I have temporarily reduced the security which I must put back shortly; there are other sites, with a high photo content which we have trouble getting around as photos take up a lot of space and the site is popular; I don`t understand websites but I wonder if they get overloaded. Thanks again Sheila

Thanks for your reply Judith, we have retrieved much more memory (we have 80% storage now) by taking off the photos on to a separate hard drive ; my husband thinks it is faster, this afternoon except perhaps for very busy sites; I have been socializing with close friends this pm. so will see how it goes tonight. Bye Sheila

I have a fast connection but the site is relatively slow for me too.
And another problem I have is that when I go on "my page" I get the message that the script doesn't answer.
I think it has to do with the slideshow of the photos. Because when I click "stop script" everything is there except the slideshow.

I, too have a broadband, fairly fast connection. Most of the time, this site loads just fine. I have found, though, that it really slows down late in the afternoon. This is probably because a lot of our neighbors are going online at the same time. The pipeline is only so big. So I have tried logging into Stitchin Fingers earlier in the day.

Another trick I tried was de-fragmenting my hard drive. One way your PC's memory works is to temporarily put memory files on the hard drive. If there are no large free spaces, you may hear a lot of drive "chatter." Defragmenting is a really good idea especially after you have removed a lot of big files, like photos. I did this on my system recently and it has helped a little bit. Not dramatic, but every little bit helps!

Thank you Liz for your ideas, which we will put into practice, although at this moment we seem to be faster. Will try it again during this evening. Regards Sheila

The slideshow on my page is usually slow to load for me too and I also sometimes get the same message. Otherwise, the site seems to work pretty well.

Thanks Annie for your response - sometimes it seems that I can get into another page almost immediately or not at all! haven`t had the message, though! Regards Sheila

Annie this is part of the answer I wrote Kirsten - I have done a cut and paste - I hope you will find it useful

....
You can change your photos to thumbs by going to edit (right hand side just above the the slide show
Next to Display select "Thumbnails" from the drop down arrow menu
Select the number of rows you want to display from the "Show" drop down arrow menu
And Remember to click save

Last night I changed the main page slide show to thumbs - so you can check and see if it is any better for you

If it does not solve the problem you can always switch back

Also if you have loads of gadgets on your "my page" it will slow things down too as these are all driven by scripts of one sort or another.

If pages like this one - ie in the groups that have no photos etc on them - are slow to load it really is your connection or computer system as apart from a few icons there is only text here. Perhaps someone can think of something else but I am scratching my head.
