It's great to see people joining here. I hope we can shape a community site that is of use to everyone. So I am throwing out questions and ideas in the hope that people will say how they would like to see the place shaped as this is a community site!

What would you like to see here? Do people want activities - discussions - etc Do we need activities - discussions etc to be suggested/ lead by somone etc
Swaps? Highlighting eyecandy? links?

Also should we just let anyone join - i am tempted to click "the approve before joining button" as I don't want spammers or people who are not textile folks spoiling the place I will if it happens but how do others feel?

I have put up a notes area so we can share skills /tips as we learn to use this place .

It occurred to me that we might want a tips advice area. Any ideas? should it be a thread int he forum? What do you think?

I like the idea of small challenges that help us stretch our boundaries.

I would love to see a place to find out how to use the site better, it is confusing to me at the moment.

Its confusing to me too - I am checking the forum and organising the groups but I thinkit is one of those 'learn the layout' situations
That said if anyone discovers features please let the group know

I would like to swap idea's get help when need and if someone finds something new or different we share it. I have worked in Europe but am from the UK and have found sometimes when I have been in europe I haven't been able to get things and they didn't know what I was talking about which was a shame they do know I did tell them

I agree with Sue.
I think Ning is very confusing like Gail does...I must get used to it.

My two cents. A place to share what we are doing, love the idea of TASF. I also love the idea of swaps. I image that people will start the things as they see the need
Having been in on-line groups before I really think that you should put need to approve button on.

Yes all members are now approved and have been for a while - groups are forming for swaps and the like so its growing naturally -
I still get confused but I guess we are all in that boat (I do feel sorry for anyone who is not as web literate as me however) the advantages out weight the confusion so its all good as my daughter would say

I have to tell ya', I am struggling with the nuts and bolts regarding the site features and how to set things up as I like. For example, the time is incorrect, off by 6 hours (too early). Also, I am confused about replying to comments, it seems that "comment back" ends up in the members comments when I want it to be a continuation of the discussion underway and showing in that discussion thread. (Is this making ANY sense?) So, I have been posting to both.

Help! Is there a FAQ thread or a "How to do this on the site" thread somewhere? A key to features and how to use them?

I am so familiar with vBulletin type boards that I am not adapting so well to this unfamiliar format.

Its a good question because help is on the main Ning site
http://help.ning.com/

Many of the features and layout I cant change even as the administrator which is why I often say I am learning too. Some I agree are cluncky but so far it is free and for many has been fun.

I think everyone is struggling a bit with this site as the way it does replies etc. is kind of odd. I haven't really seen a place that lists the how to's though. I think the time is set by the person who creates the network - thus it is on Australian time. Perhaps Sharon knows a better answer for this??
