I have activated "Allow members to create groups" so that people can create their own groups. It's quite easy you just go to "Groups" tab and then click "Create a group" you need a small photo to hand for the group (I used a photo 300 pixels wide and 72 ppi) otherwise the group won't be created
Groups are a little bit like categories so feel free to start them I do suggest however that people who want to start a group discuss it with the community first to see if their is any interest. There is nothing sadder than a group of one person. One thing I have learnt through running challenges etc is that you have to have the numbers as group has to have community support to maintain itself so ask and see if there are takers.
People who create groups are the moderators - if there is really any big issues like a member being really nasty contact me.
Janet you can see some fabric postcards here on my flickr account but also here are all the public photos of fabric postcards on flickr -
As you can see they are postcards made of fabric and are a great format for trying out ideas, and experimenting
Oh Wow!
Sometimes, I think it is more fun to be a newbie, as the discovery of all this is like Christmas for the adult person. . . . . .
thanks for sharing. . . .
A fabric postcard is exactly what it sounds like.. it is the size of a post card but a little quiltlet or work of fiber art. Some can actually be mailed and there are groups that do this in order to collect the cards with the post mark. You can google this and get lots of information.
In thinking about groups, what about categories for the forum, too? I don't want to increase the time involved for you, Sharon, but in the long run it might create a more organized and user-friendly forum.
I was just thinking that the main forum here could use some organization before it gets too "full." Often, forums will have main categories, under which sub-topics are posted as individual discussion strings.... Any way to do that on here?
Yes I agree whole heartedly - but I cant see a way to categorise the forum - it seems the groups are used for categories -
I may be being thick because of this back of mine I will look further
I don't know if these are appropriate as groups, but I'd love to see one place in the community that was a central location for:
all book and magazine reviews
all tutorial links
all vendor and resource recommendations
If I had to look these up separately by beading, weaving, scrumbling, for example, it would drive me as crazy as having to jump from my Yahoo group to group, combing the files for info. I want everything in one place. I want Death by Chocolate Cake, too.
I started a felt making group - I hope I won't stay alone there for too long! I love to make felt to stitch into, and to create a piece of work from the starting point of fibre.
