As an American textile artist living in Italy, I'm feeling a desire for physical community -- in addition to the virtual. I created a group for Stitchin Fingers members who live in Europe so that we can share ideas and information about events, resources, and experiences and (who knows?) maybe even meet up somehow somewhere someday.
I'm happy to see that two people have already found and joined the group! Looking forward to seeing more and sharing our journeys.
Hi Annica!
I know I have found it hard to access the information. I've lived in Italy for more than 7 years quietly doing my textile art work, but am only recently starting to connect with other artists and with the quilting and textile world. I have the impression that there's more going on in the north and, of course, in the UK than there is here in Italy. But I'm open to surprise -- and to traveling too!
This summer, I'll go to Norway but not Sweden. Any recommendations there -- along the coast or in Oslo?
Thanks, Annica. I've put those addresses in my Norway guide book to have them ready when I get to Oslo.
No, never been to the Knitting and Stitching show. Just got back from a visit to the UK and don't expect to be there again for a while, but I'll put it on my idea list.
ciao Leslie,
no, no more involved with Quilt Italia and you? I was a member when I was kids free with all my free time for sane quilting...then the first girl and the need to find something to play with that was ready as soon as and easy to keep with me so I tried with crazy quilting and was love at the first look!
I only connected with Quilt Italia a year or so ago. The connection has allowed me to participate in a couple of shows they've sponsored and helped me connect with a wider world. My work is not really quilting, so I have a kind of peripheral position, but I find the people quite friendly and very nice company for going to quilt shows and such.
Hi Leslie!
I'd love to meet more artists and share information with each other.
Just noted you live in Italy. My family and I will be in Umbria this summer, near Perugia. Really looking forward to that!
Have fun in Umbria, Heidi! Italy is a wonderful place for vacation.
I said I didn't know about interesting places, but I have heard that there's a textile museum in Prato, Tuscany -- about 2 hours' drive from Perugia. I've never been there, but you might want to check it out. Nice excuse to see some countryside too.
